So for the next few days, I will be back as official photographer for the Kilkenny Roots Festival, which I have worked at for a number of years. It's a marathon of a task attending, never mind documenting, with (aside from the headline acts), over 70 free gigs in over 30 venues. An amazing weekend of music from international acts.
- Since 1998 the Festival has attracted some of the finest names in the Americana/Roots canon, including Calexico, Giant Sand, Ryan Adams, Alejandro Escovedo, Guy Clark, Chuck Prophet, Ray LaMontagne, Richmond Fontaine, Rodney Crowell, Phosphorescent, Sturgill Simpson and Alabama Shakes.
This year's headline acts include The Handsome Family, Marah, Western Centuries, The Americans, Yola Carter, Carter Sampson, Holly Macve, Andrew Combs, Joan Shelley, David Kitt, John Blek, Chip Taylor, Paul Cauthen and Arborist.
A huge weekend of music at a Festival that has never lost its intimacy, so I'm looking forward to catching up with friends from around the world and raising a glass to those who can't attend this year. See you on the other side if not in Kilkenny!
