The songwriting of Hayes Carll, a native of the Woodlands, Texas. Failure has always been a favourite topic, with much of Carll's catalog, built up over the last dozen-plus years, revolving around dashed dreams, doomed romance and drunken predicaments. Very often though, Carll’s leavened the losing with cleverly deployed gallows humour, self-deprecation and yarn spinning, linking his work to his native state’s tradition of wryly winning musical wit, a writing trait he shares with Guy Clark, Robert Earl Keen, Lyle Lovett and even Miranda Lambert.
He was nominated for a 2016 Grammy Award for Best Country Song, and American Songwriter awarded him with Song of the Year for “Another Like You” in 2011, the same year he was nominated for Artist of the Year at the Americana Awards.
