On 15 September 2013, my wife and I sat with Elizabeth Murray near her home in Schull, West Cork and could never have known that exactly two years later, we would be attending her debut book launch for The Book of Learning!
Elizabeth has had poetry and short stories published across Ireland and the UK as well as numerous competition short-listings but tonight was a very special night seeing her book adorn the shelves.
The launch was The Gutter Bookshop, Dublin, an independent book shop on Cow's Lane with the evening opened by Bob, gentleman and owner of the book store. Mercier Press were present as well as author, Sarah Webb, to introduce the evening and facilitate a Q&A session. The Book of Learning is primarily a novel for young adults and so it was extra special to hear Ishtara and Kashmira recite from the book to the packed audience.
It was a great occasion to be a part of and to see the fruition of long-term creative work but particularly as it was someone that since those few days in Schull, I hope I can now call a friend.
