I recently had the opportunity to shoot some beer bottles including the two here, from Moritz (who markets itself as the only beer brand in the world whose labeling is entirely in the Catalan language) and 'Nitro' from Left Hand Brewing.
Both these beers are available in the Thomas House and are only two of the huge selection of craft, IPA and independent brewery beers that they stock. With more and more bars widening the choice for customers, it has never been more apparent to me how fairly the Thomas House price their stock.
To counter any bias argument as I write about my local, consider why it is my local in a city awash with some great bars. On a personal level, the Thomas House gave me the opportunity to DJ for over a year some time ago. I completed multiple projects there when I was in college as well as personal past and current photography projects. I have made a mountain of friends through the bar. Their music (both live and DJ) is in line with my own taste and has allowed me to hear some great domestic and international live acts. When I can, I get my haircut in there by the weekly resident 'Demon Barber'!
So yes, I am biased. Who wouldn't be.
But if I just walked in off the street, 'unbiased', yes I would have to notice the prices as well as everything else. The bar is an independent bar who can't offset costs against their other premises (there aren't any) and it doesn't heap surcharges onto the customer, blaming rates, staffing costs or late licence costs.
It's a great bar and I hope my work in progress, A Home for Rebellion gives a flavour of this; indeed, that is why I started it.
It's the kind of place I would wish was there, if it wasn't there. One friend and customer has the bar logo tattooed on his arm. A barman that used to work there has a tattoo of that customer on his arm!
If you haven't been to the Thomas House, you should. To everyone else, I'll see you there soon!
